Editor’s Note

Writing about the current climate of America feels like writing about Mars. Hot, distant, volatile. My family has lived on this land for more than four hundred years, and yet the story has always been one lit by a torch: a scorched epic poem of red flames, blue flames, and white flames. Different in appearance, seamlessly shifting as it intensifies. In all its force, it blazes a trail forward. If that poem had a cover, who would sit front and center?

In the heat of 2026, we all have a job to do. Each role looks different. I have decided that mine is connection. What I can offer is the ability to help Americans see one another, to widen the face of who we are and how we sound when we speak together. Beyond distorted media portrayal, divisive political schemes, and the quiet profit made from teaching us to hate each other. I ask that you, as a reader, come to this publication with a willingness to connect. Are we truly that different from one another?

It is not lost on me that the headlines flash constantly. I see the stories. I see the blood in the streets. I see the monsters that hide behind the flag. This is not the place where we will debate those moments. Not because I am unaffected or unaware, but because I understand my role. There are brilliant journalists, activists, protectors, and truth tellers who carry that work like angels. We support them, and at the end of each issue you will find resources that uplift and amplify their voices.

Here, our work is different. We imagine America through a new lens. One that seeks connection before division and curiosity before condemnation, transported by art and humanity.
